okay first, allow me to indulge for a moment.

Esplanade Presents:
MUSIC EXTRAVAGANZA
- Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) Choir, Singapore
6th August 2007, Monday, 7.30pm (60 minutes), Concert Hall
Ticket Pricing: $20 (Concession for Students: $15)

i am once again, filled with much, much pride and love. (: to be able to sing at the esplanade concert hall (emphasis: esplanade concert hall) is almost like a dream come true, especially when one has spent many nights wondering whether esplanade's invitation was for us to sing at the recital studio, or well, the concourse - not saying that esplanade would be that mean though. haha and can i say that i'm really glad that we sort of manouevered our way around the 'double bill' idea! (:

and hmm, i shall quote snippets of synopses here. the actual text and other information can be found at the esplanade website as well as that of sistic's, although i must say i'm rather disgruntled with the latter considering that they brilliantly ignored the concert's given title, and chose instead to go by the name of the series, 'limelight', which is just, wrong, since we're, well, not the only people performing under the auspices of that series. not that i particularly like our actual concert title either, but i do think that it does sound more generic (and okay i was almost on the verge of typing 'and less extravagant', which would be a blatant contradiction) and slightly less, ahem, cringeworthy as compared to 'limelight' (because, it, makes, us, sound, so, arrogant!) anyhow, the first concert under this inaugural series is by tjchoir, and there's another concert immediately after ours by cathigh's symphonic band. (i presume it's 'symphonic band' instead of 'symphony band'. sistic, again.) interestingly, the tickets for the 3rd concert (that is, the symphonic band one) are already on sale via sistic, but it isn't featured on esplanade's website. discrepancies, anyone?

okay okay ought to put the quotations now. i ramble way too much.

#1
"Limelight is a new Esplanade Presents programme series that places top choirs and symphonic bands from secondary schools and junior colleges in the spotlight at our Concert Hall. In this way, Esplanade hopes to offer these choirs and symphonic bands a platform on which to develop in a professional and artistic capacity."
quite an ambitious project, methinks, and esplanade's being really generous as to sponsoring the performance venues. it's a nice start in pushing the arts to the youths of today, and will constitue an awfully enriching experience for the performing groups involved. :D now we'll just have to wait and see the amount of publicity that esplanade intends to give for this series, because well, we all know that without publicity even the most brilliant of projects tend to become a major flop. and no i do not quote examples because i have none, and because it makes perfect sense as it is, but then again my logic could be highly convoluted, as can be seen from this sentence itself. okay ignore that.
hmm, i just realized that this series doesn't include ensemble performances. one wonders why.

#2
"Esplanade's series of signature programmes under Esplanade Presents represents the best quality performances. Esplanade Presents offers an exciting and diverse range of free and ticketed programmes from classical to contemporary to suit everyone."
and basically, this quote, coupled with the one above, shows the great amount of audience expectation we'll be facing in putting up such a concert at esplanade. granted, people don't pay a lot of attention to introductory statements like these nowadays - hmm, because almost every other programme / series starts off the same way? - but to those that do pay attention, i daresay they would be wanting to hear a truly sublime performance worthy of those words of praise given to the performers, and how we're going to deliver that promise that we've accepted as a consequence alongside accepting their invitation is going to be a key question. oh, and we also have a reputation to keep, what with being an honours choir and stuff like that. i don't think anyone of us would want to end up hearing criticisms such as 'oh they just aren't fit to perform in a place like this' and the like. so in this sense i'm starting to feel the sense of urgency and pressure that's heaping up on us, this need to being working real hard and really put heart and soul into whatever we're doing. but of course, we can definitely do this, RGSChoir! :D

okay blah i don't want to put the introductions of the choir here, go read them yourself! so well, moving on, i think our repertoire this year is more interesting than that which we presented at bel canto! (: we're breaking out of traditional moulds, i guess, to experimenting with pieces of different forms and styles, but then again the solid choral stuff's also there. the only doubts i have about our repertoire is the fact that the experimental stuff, incidentally, have been presented by other choirs recently (like jaakobin and word game), and i'm just curious whether people would be less attracted to our performance because they've already heard renditions of the pieces elsewhere. then again, you could always bank on the competitive nature of humans, and there will always be people who've done the piece before and who come watch you for the sake of wanting to know how much better you can do this piece as compared to themselves. so well, it could go both ways. of course, i'm missing the point that we could always bring a new perspective and interpretation to that same piece, and make it unique. :D

i should end off soon; my supposed lunch break is very much over. there's choir practice tomorrow (and yes, finally, the extended choir practice!), but my throat ain't showing signs of clearing up. ): ohwell at least it's gone beyond the stage of 'ouch-why-does-it-hurt-so-much-even-when-i-swallow-saliva', but it's still, bad. fiona please get well soon so that when we do jaakobin tomorrow sop2s will have an anchor! (now i wish i remained in sop3 with chloe. and no don't snigger, there is indeed a 3rd soprano part in jaakobin, as inane as it sounds.) oh and yay we'll be doing dirait-on tomorrow, it's such a pretty song though i still think the satb arrangement sounds better than the ssaa. and no i insist that the poetry's not rubbish! ):

random note: sibelius op47 is nice, even though i'm no violin concerto connoisseur. x)

my history pt instruction sheet is staring me in the face, or rather, i'm staring at it, which means i ought to start on it after finishing my chinese book review (which interestingly, or should i say, to my utmost horror, could be considered as doing viva voce in chinese), though i have a feeling that i might just digress and work on poetry. whatever it is, i'm getting out of here. (:

composed; 1:14 PM :D

lives, writes, sings, plays the piano, and attempts to sound intellectual at times (conclusion: fails rather miserably).

loves music (almost strictly classical, hurhur & inclusive of faziolis!), literature (& also the sciences - no they are not in conflict), making hopelessly lame puns, laughter, white/milk chocolate, cheesecake, the world & the people in it. list not exhaustive, by the way.

wants the world to be filled with peace, joy and love, and also wants (perhaps a little more selfishly) to be happy, plus lead a life of purpose. that would be more than enough. (:

oh, and she likes embarking on her own 'free hugs!' campaigns after exams and the like; not really sure why. D: (at any rate, you can tell that she's random enough.)

loves you!♥

very plain, she knows; but this is probably herself in its entirety - nothing more than a compilation of perhaps-boring-to-you little things (and the occasional Important Event), but also nothing less than all the brilliant memories which constitutes her life, and perhaps yours.

also interpreted as an inability to express with other things but words (nothing more, nothing less!), although even words sometimes won't do enough. but she does like orange.

v2.0 (230208): maybe solid grey isn't that fantastic after all. but wordy is good, all the same. she's weird, she knows.

ver. i-pretend-that-it-is-3.0-when-i-know-it-is-not (070608): i am boring, take that. (:

v4.0 (200908): got bored, so cut down on the quasi-fanciful stuff even more. perfectly plain now, though somehow the background still doesn't work on safari / google chrome. ):
